We Care We Count Frequently Asked Questions

What is a pledge?

A pledge is a promise to give to UNT at a later date in any amount that you choose. Once you make your gift, your pledge is fulfilled. Pledges may be fulfilled in one installment or up to twelve (12) monthly installments.

What is a monthly recurring gift?

These are ongoing gifts with no specific end date. Recurring gifts are debited to UNT each month, and can be made through automatic debit/credit card transactions, payroll deductions or bank drafts.

What is a payroll deduction gift*?

This is a way for you to give by agreeing to have the funds deducted directly from your paycheck. You can utilize this method for any gift.

Why does UNT ask faculty and staff to donate?

We believe that the causes these funds support, scholarships and programs like the Dean of Students’ Food Pantry in particular, are worthy of donations from every UNT community member. Additionally, foundations and corporations are more likely to provide grants to institutions that have the monetary support of their closest community members — in our case, that’s faculty and staff. Generosity generates more generosity.

Is this the same thing as the State Employee Charitable Campaign (SECC)?

No. Gifts made through SECC support external charitable organizations. Contributing to We Care We Count allows you to give directly to any of UNT’s scholarships, departments or programs. Unlike SECC, there are no processing fees taken out of your gifts during the We Care We Count campaign.

What are the tax benefits of giving to UNT?

Your gift is tax deductible as allowable by law. You will receive a physical receipt for each contribution. Gifts made via payroll deduction will receive one tax-ready statement in January of next year. Monthly information about your recurring gift will be summarized on your paycheck stub.

Donors who opt-in to receive a WCWC t-shirt will have Fair Market Value (FMV) removed from their tax-deductible donation, if applicable.

Can I give to another place on campus and still be counted as participating for my unit?

Yes! This is the case for many faculty and staff members. The campaign counts how many full-time, benefits eligible faculty and staff members from each unit make a charitable contribution to any UNT fund, regardless of selected fund. You are encouraged to support the cause on campus that means the most to you.

Will my department know where I give to? Will they know how much I give?

Department heads will only receive donor information related to their unit-controlled funds.

* Important information regarding payroll deduction

Faculty and staff will see any new payroll deductions or cancellations at the conclusion of the campaign in June. This is with the exception of payroll deductions for Mean Green Scholarship Fund memberships, which will be handled on a case-by-case basis based on benefits.

Any recurring gift established with the WCWC gift form is in addition to any existing recurring gift or pledge.

To change existing recurring gifts or pledges, contact Gift Administration at (940) 369-8200 or giving@unt.edu.
